The Andaman Islands. Even the name sounds distant and untouched. A forgotten world.
Leave behind the ordinary and discover something else at Anugama Resort. A 40 minute drive from Port Blair through lush green jungle and hills to Wandoor. Our charming cotttages are surrounded by a post Tsunami lake with water birds. Tranquil and soothing to the soul. Snorkel the turquoise blue reefs at Wandoor beach, or Jolly Buoy and Redskin islands of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Scuba diving the Andamans is an unforgettable experience. Fabulous dive sites are to be found here, at Chidiya Tapu or Havelock island.
The Andaman Islands are a good distance away from mainland India. In fact, these islands are closer to Thailand and Burma. For those of you familiar with Alcatraz prison, these islands were the British version of the same when India was ruled by the Queen. For those who rebelled, incarceration at the Andamans was the result. The sheer distance and isolation would have broken any man or woman. Today however, it is a serene holiday getaway, with daily flights from cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi or Kolkata to these islands. On arrival, don't forget to ask for the Restricted Area Permit if you are NOT holding and Indian passport.
Anugama Resort is at Wandoor, about 26 km from the airport, and the journey is through lush green hills and forest. Taxis are available, but do double check what the actual rates are, before you arrive. We can advise you about this; transfers can also be arranged by us to and from the airport.
